Xbox One Supports Audio CD Playback and DLNA Streaming

Xbox One is capable of both playing audio CDs and DLNA streaming, two features which distinguish it from PlayStation 4.


As part of a huge FAQ Sony published regarding PlayStation 4 this week, it was revealed that PS4 lacked some music-related functionality -- primarily, that it can't play audio CDs or MP3s and lacks a music visualizer and DLNA support. Feedback from gamers has caused Sony to state it's "exploring possibilities" regarding this, but it has nothing to formally announce as of yet.


These revelations prompted the Penny Arcade Report to inquire with Microsoft about whether these features are supported on Xbox One. Microsoft has responded by announcing Xbox One will offer audio CD playback and DLNA compatibility. Content can be streamed to the system as a Play To receiver, meaning you'll need a supported device in order to stream MP3s to the console.
