Marvel's Thor: The Dark World repeated as the No. 1 movie at the domestic box office this weekend, staving off a very strong opening from The Best Man Holiday.
It should be noted that the top two films were both sequels. After three weeks in release (it opened a week earlier internationally than it did at home), Thor: The Dark World's worldwide tally currently stands at $479.8 million -- its 2011 predecessor Thor finished its run with $449.3 million.
The Best Man Holiday, a sequel to 1999's The Best Man, opened to $30.6 million. The Best Man made a total of $34.6 million so the follow-up's already on its way to outshining the original commercially.
