Curse of Chucky: The Day We Saw a Decapitation

With Curse of Chucky now out on Blu-ray, the franchise is back and stronger than ever. To celebrate the film’s release and the return of Chucky, we’d like to share with you some cool stuff we learned on the set of the film.


Back in 2012, Universal invited IGN and a few other sites to Winnipeg, Canada, to check out Curse of Chucky’s delightfully creepy set. Not only did we get to see the infamous doll up close and personal, but we were also treated to one of Chucky’s truly gruesome kills.


What we heard and saw while in Canada revealed everyone involved definitely brought their A-game to Chucky’s sixth film. The filmmakers wisely opted to value practical effects over CGI. The crew emphasized to us how important it is to make us feel like the character is actually running around the house and not blatantly added in afterwards. Additionally, the violence has to feel real instead of laughably fake, so there’s strong attention to using practical effects with injuries and deaths.
