Atlantis: Series Premiere Review

Advance Review (for those not living in the U.K. anyhow):


Atlantis, from Merlin's Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy and Misfits' Howard Overman, is determined to shake out the sheets of Greek mythology. Turn everything you think you know (if you're someone who knows Greek mythology) upside-down and and inside-out. Seemingly for the sheer purpose of subverting expectations. Which can most certainly reinvigorate something stale, but also needlessly frustrate via random tinkering and empty dabbling.


I'm sure Once Upon a Time fans experience this polarizing effect quite often, as it's probably impossible for those who are well-versed in Disney to agree with all the changes made and liberties seized. Atlantis, which has already aired most of its first season/series on the BBC across the pond, debuts here in the States tomorrow night on BBC America. It's not a terrible show, so unfortunately I don't get to spend paragraph after paragraph diving into the juicy details of how much it falters and fails, but it's not a necessarily good show either. So here you'll find one of those boring, middling reviews about a show that's not great, but serviceable.
