Red Lanterns #31 Review

STK638170 While the various Green Lantern books are busy with the "Uprising" storyline, Red Lanterns wraps up its own crossover with Supergirl this week. Whether that crossover was really necessary is debatable, but the end result is that Charles Soule is able to explore a compelling new addition to the Red Lantern lineup and set the stage for bigger conflicts to come in the near future.


I was a little dubious on the idea of Kara becoming a Red Lantern at first, as that's one of those ideas that "would never happen before the New 52." But it's worked out pretty well for this series so far. Kara struggles a great deal in this issue with her teenage impulsiveness and the need to channel her rage into more useful forms. And her actions lead to some cool spectacle during the course of the issue, all nicely rendered in Alessandro Vitti's gritty style. It's easy to appreciate how much Soule has done to make this cast less two-dimensional and more multifaceted over the past year as they bond and interact.
