Injustice: Gods Among Us - Year Two #5 Review

STK638159 After spending the majority of Injustice: Year Two building up to a war between Superman and the Green Lantern Corps, Tom Taylor finally begins delivering on the promise of epic drama and spectacle with issue #5. These may well be the most intense and satisfying two chapters of Year Two, with plenty of action, tension, and the sort of effortless but cinematic storytelling that has distinguished Taylor's writing all along.


The first chapter in this issue serves as a build-up to the main event, with Superman recruiting Shazam and Hawkgirl to form a welcoming committee for the Lanterns. It's very much appreciated how Taylor finds time for spurts of humor and levity in his writing even as the tension mounts. Seeing Superman drop into Billy Batson's middle school classroom or Black Canary hoist Guy Gardner up with her new super-strength is as memorable as the carnage that unfolds later. The second chapter is very satisfying in that regard, as both forces are unleashed and Taylor delivers the fight we've been waiting decades for - Ch'p vs. Superman. Never underestimate the little guy.
