Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.
"Mercy Moment Murder Measure" was all about Simcoe, and the ramifications of his return to Setauket. Apparently a few of his fellow redcoats were happy to see him but it was mostly bad news for all of his past acquaintances. This includes Major Hewlett, who isn't thrilled to welcome back the loose cannon to his well-ordered world but he nonetheless allows Simcoe to try to root out a possible conspiracy in town.
He asks Simcoe to "tread lightly", and Simcoe's eye-roll at Hewlett's desire to win hearts and minds rather than crack skulls and impose the will of the Crown was one of many great Samuel Roukin moments this week. he's just so fun to watch as Simcoe so enjoys being Simcoe. And what's truly great about the character is he isn't a one-note psycho. He has a code of honor and his affection for Anna seems pretty genuine (for a guy whose blood pressure doesn't change when he stabs people in the neck at the dinner table).
