Valve Delays Steam Controller to 2015

Only five months after unveiling its hardware at CES, Valve has officially delayed the release of its controller, leaving the fate of the broader Steam Machine platform unknown. Announced via a blog post, Valve explained that continued development and testing of the Steam Machine controller has pushed the release window for the controller from 2014 until an unspecified date in 2015.


The company attributes the delay to ongoing user feedback and iteration for its latest wireless prototypes, as well as the implementation of various improvements.


What's unclear, however, is how this will impact the release of the operating system and the 14 Steam Machine devices announced at CES in January, as the Steam Controller was one of the platform's key pillars and was slated to be bundled with every device sold.
