Louie: Season 4 Premiere Review

Warning: Full spoilers for the season premiere of Louie follow...


In the first episode of Louie since September of 2012, Louie woke up (involuntarily), went over the finer points of humor with his building's electrician, conversed with Todd Barry (always hilariously playing Louie's Id/callous sounding board), observed his oldest daughter writing a heartfelt plea to a disease, played some poker with his foul-minded buddies, and then threw his back out while sheepishly pointing to a vibrator at a sex shop.


All in all, a very funny smorgasbord of what the series has to offer. A sort of a Louie "sampler platter," entitled "Back" in reference to both the sluggish comedian's injured back and the fact the show's returned after a nineteen month break. So a re-emergence into the laughably painful and depressed life of Louie was definitely in order. Was it in line with some of the show's best offerings? Not really. But it still wonderfully served its purpose as an (almost) re-pilot. As in, someone who'd never seen the show could watch this episode and instantly get what the series is about. The stand up bits, the daughters, Louie's circle of friends, and the comedy of errors element.
