Louie: "Elevator Part 4" Review

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow...


"Can't you just figure out how to live a life already?"


The ongoing sweet-yet-angsty Elevator saga continued this week as "Elevator Part 4" re-focused the story on Jane's current emotional dilemma and gave us some amazing scenes between Louie and Janet - including a third act that was all an incredible flashback to the time when Louie and Janet almost amicably divorced as young adults.


And yes, that was a young Janet, despite the fact that actress Brooke Adams is white. Janet's actual race has never been an important factor, as seen with the show's casting of Susan Kelechi Watson as adult Janet. It's always been more about the embodiment of her character and spirit - and young Janet proved to be just as practical and perpetually pissed-off as the older version. And those descriptions aren't meant to deride her necessarily, as being in (or trapped in) a relationship with the ever-sulking Louie would be enough to drive anyone up the wall. Though, to be fair, she herself seemed to be bothered when the counselor (Denny Dillon) she and Louie paid to see called her "practical and less guided by her feelings."
