Forever Evil has succeeded in many areas where event comics so often fail. Unfortunately, one pitfall this series couldn't escape is the obligatory third act delays. Forever Evil #7 finally arrives a couple months late, after much of the DC Universe has already moved on to other stories and conflicts. Luckily, the wait was mostly worth it. There are a few sore spots in this finale issue, but also a lot of great moments along the way.
Forever Evil is really a Lex Luthor story at its core, and nowhere is that more apparent than in issue #7. Apart from Bizarro, the rest of Luthor's team take a back seat in the battle against the Crime Syndicate and their unleashed prisoner, Mazahs. And even Bizarro's role is mainly a way of furthering Luthor's own character development. But that's all just fine. It's clear Johns has ongoing plans for Luthor beyond the scope of this mini-series. This issue wraps up Luthor's current character arc and cleverly pits him against a twisted mirror image of himself. It becomes a war of Lex the cerebral villain vs. Alexander the power-stealing demigod.
