Minimum: What Human Head's New Shooter is Doing Differently

When I first played Human Head's new third-person shooter, Minimum, I didn't expect giant robots or MOBA elements to play a front-and-center role. But Minimum incorporates them in a way that feels new and authentic, not exploitative.


I went hands-on with Minimum’s “Titan” mode, which is the one mode it will launch with when it hits early access on Steam. The rules may seem complicated at first, but they’re easy enough to pick up within a round or two.


Before the battle starts, the map is filled with “creeps,” which are non-player characters that scurry around rapidly. Killing them awards you with resources that power up a huge titan robot. Whichever team collects more resources has a stronger titan for the following round. It’s also possible to kill off enemy players during the creep wave, though by denying them time to hunt for resources, you may also harm yourself. It’s neat that Minimum allows this sort of risk and reward in the earliest moments of the game, much like more traditional MOBAs do.
