The Blacklist: Season 1 Finale Review

After a season of vague hints at deeper conspiracies and endless questions about mysterious pasts, The Blacklist kicks the can down the road to next season. “Berlin: Conclusion” eventually got down to what makes the show tick: a motivated Red, taking care of business with flair. Finding himself squeezed in by an unknown enemy, Red cut a swath through yes-men and henchman before getting to what he wants: a story. But until its entertaining back half, most of tonight’s episode had to wade through an overstuffed and, at times, muddled plot.


Picking up where last week’s cliffhanger left off, a jarring Matt Lauer cameo fills us in on the plane that went down and the mystery that surrounds it. I have to admit that I didn’t follow the head fake that the writers wanted me to and was never under the impression that the prisoner had cut off the guard’s hand. All the guys being interviewed were too blown away for it to have been anything but a huge, badass sacrifice.
