Mortal Kombat 9 to Continue Online Support Following GameSpy Closure

NetherRealm Studios has announced that it will continue online support for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC versions of the fighting game Mortal Kombat 9, following the closure of GameSpy's online services on May 31.


"We are currently in the process of migrating Mortal Kombat 9 from Gamespy’s servers and expect things to go smoothly," the developer said on Mortal Kombat's Facebook page. "During the transition, players may experience an interruption of online play and matchmaking and we ask for your patience during this time."


Offline play is unaffected by this process.


Unfortunately this support does not extend to PS Vita players, who won't be able to access any online multiplayer features after May 31. Vita players will only be able to play ad-hoc multiplayer matches - in other words, non-internet matches organised over devices in close physical proximity. NetherRealm did not state why online support was not extended to the PS Vita version of Mortal Kombat.
