UFC champ Georges St. Pierre and WWE star Dave Bautista will join stuntman Alain Moussi (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Pacific Rim) in the reboot of the 1989 martial arts actioner Kickboxer, which originally starred Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Bautista had a small role in 2012’s Riddick and will play central character Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy, which comes out in August. St. Pierre’s first film was Captain America: The Winter Soldier, where he played Georges Batroc, aka Batroc the Leaper. Kickboxer will be Moussi’s first lead role.
The plot should come as no surprise to anyone who’s seen the not-at-all-similar-to-Bloodsport original. Per Deadline, “The film follows David and Kurt Sloan, the descendants of a California dynasty of champions. After David wins the Karate World Championship, a promoter lures him to Hong Kong despite his brother’s protests. When David dies, Kurt turns to his former mentor Xian Chow to seek revenge on the viscous Tong Po.”
