Chances are you know what to expect from anything that has “Jay and Silent Bob” in the title. If it’s crude, teenage fart and sex humor that you’re looking for, Jay and Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie will deliver it to you in spades. But if you’re looking for the cleverness of Kevin Smith’s best work – the great scripting of movies such as Chasing Amy and Dogma – you may be raising your hopes too high.
That’s not to say this movie isn’t enjoyable, it’s just that it’s Jay and Silent Bob distilled to their absolute base level humor. It’s more crass than even Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, which itself was the most ludicrous of the first decade of View Askew yet still smart in its own way. The Super Groovy Cartoon Movie loses that element and just goes for dick-and-balls humor through and through. Unfortunately, crudity just isn’t enough to carry the laughs for a full hour.
