The King of the Monsters roared back into theaters this weekend, easily crushing his box office rivals. The Warner Bros.-Legendary reboot of Godzilla debuted with a stellar $93.2 million to become the No. 1 movie in North America.
Godzilla had the best opening day of the year Friday with $38.5 million, but Captain America: The Winter Soldier so far remains 2014's best opening weekend with $95 million. Globally, Godzilla bowed with an estimated $103 million for a current worldwide total of $196.2 million.
The weekend's other major new release, Million Dollar Arm, opened in fourth place with an estimated $10.5 million.
Last weekend's champ, Neighbors, slipped to second place with $26 million, while The Amazing Spider-Man 2 finished in third place with $16.8 million in its third weekend in release. The web-slinger's latest has so far earned $172.2 million domestically and $633.2 million worldwide.
