*Spoilers* for all of HBO's Game of Thrones through the episode "Oathkeeper."
Last week's Game of Thrones episode, "Oathkeeper," ended with a big blockbuster White Walker moment. No, the frozen undead hordes didn't massacre a bunch of Night's Watch rangers. In fact, there was no bloodletting at all. Instead, we got a great, unexpected peek into their remote, secret world off in a land beyond "Beyond the Wall." A base camp where they all seem to stand around menacingly, awaiting the arrival of newborn baby boys via DeadEx.
But what's their play here? What's their scheme? Their goal? There's a lot to pay attention to on Game of Thrones. Tons of different characters and conflicts that sprawl out over the globe. But perhaps it's all just a tricky shell game, making it very easy for us to take our eyes of what's really important. Before we were even introduced to the Starks, the series opened with a scene involving a trio of bold Night's Watch rangers making a gruesome discovery, and then another gruesome discovery...and then one final gruesome discovery. And right away we knew that there were crazed supernatural monsters in the snowy woods that could reanimate human corpses.
