Fox's X-Men: Days of Future Past had the second-biggest (three-day) opening in the franchise's history this Memorial Day weekend, debuting with an estimated $90.7 million to easily top the domestic box office.
That's $12 million less than 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand's opening, but $45 more than X-Men: First Class bowed with in 2011. As this is a four-day holiday weekend in the States, Days of Future Past is projected to make upwards of $110 million for the four-day weekend.
Internationally, the Bryan Singer-directed sequel -- which brings together both the original and First Class casts -- earned about $171.1 million to brings its global cume to $261.8 million.
Last weekend's champ Godzilla slipped to second place with $31.4 million. Although it dropped roughly 66% in its second weekend, the monster movie's now made $148.8 million domestically and $315.4 million worldwide.
