Mere days after 9/11, a self-proclaimed American terrorist walked into a convenience store in Dallas and shot Raisuddin Bhuiyan. Mark Stroman was exacting revenge, and Bhuiyan was the unfortunate target of his hate and anger.
The non-fiction book The True American: Murder and Mercy in Texas by Anand Giridharadas explores the history of each of those men and what led up to the day of the shooting. The book also follows them after the event as Stroman sits on Death Row and Bhuiyan tries to make his home in the United States.
The book is being adapted into a film and, according to Variety, Kathryn Bigelow is set to direct and Tom Hardy will star. This is Bigelow's first project since Zero Dark Thirty.
