24: Live Another Day - "2:00 PM-3:00 PM" Review

For a show to thrive it’s got to be much more than a one-trick pony, and 24 has proven to be surprisingly nimble over the years. The first few episodes this season came on strong-- featuring explosions, gunfights and chases. But this week the show switches to claustrophobic, intense standoffs. After crisscrossing London with the CIA nipping at his heels, Jack has finally painted himself into a corner by breaking into the U.S. embassy, setting the stage for 24 to play out Dog Day Afternoon in about 20 minutes or so.


Part of the pleasure of this showcase sequence was the surprise that it was happening at all. It was exciting and suspenseful to watch Jack infiltrate the embassy and have a quick chat with Tanner, but I never doubted that he and Chloe would find an exit or make a new one. After seeing how inept embassy security was, this would be a cakewalk. Honestly, I love watching Bauer outsmart his opponents as much as anyone but his path to Tanner was absurdly easy. Thankfully there wasn’t time to dwell on that lapse since Jack quickly found himself at a dead end, taking hostages to buy time.
