According to inside sources at Lionsgate, prior to his untimely death actor Philip Seymour Hoffman had finished substantially all of his work on the two remaining Hunger Games films, except for “one major, emotional scene left to film in the final installment of the Hunger Games series, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.” Hoffman died of an apparent drug overdose on February 2.
Though no one has said which scene has yet to be filmed, Mockingjay sees Hoffman’s Plutarch Heavensbee character become a close confidant and mentor to protagonist Katniss Everdeen. The same insiders were confident, however, that both Parts 1 and 2 of Mockingjay would still be successfully finished and remain creatively intact without the need to recast Heavensbee. Hoffman reportedly had about a week of shooting left before his work on both films was complete.
