The Wake #6 Review

STK631951 So it turns out that the first five issues of this series were really just an extended (and absurdly great) prologue to the story just beginning in The Wake #6. Scott Snyder and Sean Murphy are undeniably giddy to reveal the brave new world presented here. Their enthusiasm jumps off the page and firmly embeds itself into your mind, and the conclusion of this issue will leave you undeniably gobsmacked.


We are already six issues into this ten-issue tale, but Snyder and Murphy make this feel like a completely new series. We’ve been shown glimpses of this futuristic/post-apocalyptic world before, but now the creators finally get to share it with us in full. We are shown this world through the lens of our new protagonist, Leeward. She’s, well, has the phrase “absurdly great” already been used? Seriously, she’s incredible, and you want to get to know more about her just as much as you want to get to know more about this flooded version of Earth. While Snyder is clearly pumped to give us a tour of this new world, he makes sure to refrain from giving too much away. We are introduced to more than one new threat, and while the “Mers” are certainly a major component of that, Snyder shows us that humanity may be just as big a threat to itself.
