Fantastic Four #1 Review

All superhero franchises are cyclical to some degree. With Fantastic Four, the usual emphasis on family dynamics and exploration are sporadically broken up by dark plot twists or character deaths. And so after a year of Matt Fraction's run emphasizing the exploration element, it seems the pendulum has swung back towards darkness with this new series. James Robinson's first issue kicks off with a flash-forward teasing the dark developments Marvel's First Family will face in the months ahead. And while I'm not sure I'm really in the mood for a darker F4 book right now, this material does help add flavor to what would otherwise seem like a pretty by-the-numbers take on the franchise.
