If you’re an old-school PlayStation fan, you’ll remember PocketStation well. It was essentially a memory card for the original PlayStation, but it had a tiny LCD screen and five buttons on it, letting you play Tamagotchi-like games that, in turn, would translate to your PSone. It even had some little mini-games all its own.
Unfortunately, for western PlayStation gamers, PocketStation was nothing more than a mirage, something seen in tiny JPEGs on the late-‘90s Internet and in the pages of PSM. It was only released in Japan – it launched in early 1999 – and was discontinued as the PSone waned in popularity early in the 21st century.
