Mystery Science Theater 3000: 25th Anniversary DVD Review

Yes, the 25th anniversary of Mystery Science Theater 3000 is here, AKA, another reason to feel old. But at least all of us MST3K fans, or MSTies, have a great new DVD release to commemorate the occasion, thanks to Shout! Factory's new 25th Anniversary Edition DVD set, which was released this week.


Per usual, there are four films featured on this set - four films at a glance, that is, since there are actually more than that (We'll get to that...). Those four movies are Moon Zero Two, The Day The Earth Froze, The Leech Woman and Gorgo, which provide a nice overview of the show's different eras, as the first two come from the Joel Hodgson/Comedy Central days and the latter two are from the Mike Nelson/Sci-Fi Channel era. Gorgo is a particularly exciting inclusion for fans, as it's not only never been put on DVD before but was never shown in repeats, due to a copyright dispute. While I'd say Moon Zero Two is the most hit or miss of the bunch, overall, there are strong episodes featuring some great one-liners from the Joel, Mike and the bots and some classic running gags ("Sampo!").
