Before Titanfall, early ideas at Respawn Entertainment included a demon invasion, “Batman with guns,” military men shooting rockets at dragons, playing as an alien fleeing the government, and a game about baiting hordes of zombies.
These concepts, as detailed in The Final Hours of Titanfall, rarely proceeded beyond written pitches, some with a piece of art to prove a point, but it was the development team’s process to finding Titanfall.
Made Men, a concept Respawn ditched after seeing Deus Ex: Human Revolution, got farther. It was “about a squad of soldiers who genetically modify their abilities by swapping their limbs.” Respawn killed the idea when it saw Human Revolution at E3.
