Sony Offered to Develop a Vita Version of Titanfall's Prototype

Prior to revealing PlayStation 4, Sony offered to develop a Vita version of Respawn Entertainment’s R-1, the prototype shooter that would eventually become Titanfall.


In 2012, Respawn reached out to Sony about its unannounced next-generation platform in an effort to understand its hardware, according to The Final Hours of Titanfall. Sony wasn’t ready to talk specifics yet, but “offered to help with developing a version of R1” for PS Vita.


Programmer Jon Shiring was “Concerned about Sony’s lack of disclosure,” and the team moved ahead knowing what it was working with regarding Microsoft’s Durango, the code name for the machine that became Xbox One.
