The beginning of tonight's episode of Supernatural had me worried. It seemed like they were breaking through the fourth wall with a touch of Masterpiece Theatre, and though they've done that successfully before – “The French Mistake” comes to mind - it's not a trick you want to overuse. Luckily, they took a much different approach. Whew.
A lot happened, but the highlight was seeing Richard Speight, Jr. back in the series. The character is ridiculously lovable, and no one in the series can touch his comedic timing. His portrayal of Gabriel made me laugh out loud almost nonstop in each of his scenes, and even if it was ultimately too good to be true, having him back was so very satisfying.
