Pirates aren't always what they appear to be, and apparently, neither are mermaids. It's a pity JoAnna Garcia Swisher is off in another land with her romantic ending because it would been lovely to see more of her around Storybrooke. She's delightful as Ariel, and she was charming in both the fairy tale world and modern day. Yes, I'm that selfish.
Hook was equally wonderful. His actions have been speaking loudly, and we know he's been trying to be a better man. Last night, though, we got a deeper look at his struggles. We learned his origin story earlier this season in "Good Form," and now we get his sort of rebirth story. He had an image and a reputation, and when he started losing it (and his ship), he didn't know who he was anymore. While that doesn't justify him killing Blackbeard, we saw that at least it wasn't an easy choice for him to make.
