Captain America (Chris Evans) returns to action in a post-Avengers world, dealing with his life as a man out of time with the help of allies Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Falcon (Anthony Mackie). When a mysterious new assassin codenamed Winter Soldier appears on the scene, S.H.I.E.L.D. is compromised and Cap has to lead the charge against a new enemy.
