HBO are usually quick to give renewals to their series, rarely waiting for the end of the season like the broadcast networks. And so it was today, as just three days after Game of Thrones returned for Season 4, the show got a big two-season renewal, for both Season 5 and Season 6.
Said Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming, in a statement, "Game of Thrones is a phenomenon like no other. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling.”
HBO notes that the Season 4 premiere of Game of Thrones was watched by an average of 6.6 million viewers, making it their most-watched program since the finale of The Sopranos in 2007 - though it has yet to match the 11.9 million viewers that event garnered.
