ZeniMax Online Studios has temporarily closed guild banks in The Elder Scrolls Online because of a duping bug.
The announcement happened early this morning, as Gina Bruno, assistant community manager for Elder Scrolls Online, put up a public notice on the MMO's forums. "Guild bank functionality has been temporarily disabled on the North American and European megaservers," Bruno wrote. "We will notify you when it has been turned back on."
The guild bank closings are happening because of a reported widespread duping bug, which purportedly lets users duplicate materials in their bank. According to Reddit user Mistress-Rarity, the bug is so simple that Elder Scrolls Online players could do it accidentally. The bank exploit apparently makes money and items worthless, since anyone could have just replicated them.
