Marvel Studios set fire to the domestic box office this weekend with the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which broke the record for the biggest April release previously held by Fast Five.
Cap 2 opened to an estimated $96.2 million domestically (eclipsing Captain America: The First Avenger's opening weekend by roughly $30 million). It's total worldwide gross to date is a whopping $303.3 million. Its gross from just 10 days in theaters abroad surpassed the entire domestic run of The First Avenger.
Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson had another movie open this weekend, the sci-fi thriller Under the Skin. That film opened on just four screens and took in $140,000. Also opening in limited release, the found footage film Afflicted took in $68,000, the Halle Berry starrer Frankie and Alice debuted with $350,000, Jude Law's Dom Hemingway made $32,000, and the horror pic Jinn bowed with $140,000.
