We’ve seen Riddler as a bumbling idiot, a master criminal, and even, oddly enough, as a superhero. The only thing that has ever truly stayed consistent with the character is his obsession with riddles. Since the beginning of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Zero Year, we have been introduced to an entirely new version of the character. Issue #30 gives us a startling and exciting full reveal as to what this new Riddler is capable of, which effectively makes the threat of Zero Year all the more terrifying.
For nearly a year now, fans have been eagerly waiting to discover the true nature of Zero Year. Snyder and Capullo gave us a hint in issue #21 by showing us a Gotham City in ruins. Since that time, we have seen the debut story of the New 52 Batman unfold. While the threats he has faced have been familiar, they have been reinvented by the creative team. Now, we are seeing Batman face his deadliest threat yet in his early career, and fans are again being treated to a familiar, but reinvented threat in the form of Riddler.
