Transformers 4 Opening Box Office Tallies

Transformers: Age of Extinction opened last night on just shy of 3,000 screens in the U.S. The Thursday night showings, which began at 9 p.m., brought in about $8.75 million, which is less than had been projected.


According to Variety, this is the lowest net for an opening late-night showing in franchise history. The previous low was 2007’s Transformers, which “only” made $8.8 million. The late-night returns peaked with the second installment, 2009’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which took in $16.6 million from its midnight showings. 2011’s Dark of the Moon earned $13.5 million.
