South Boston's annual Saint Patrick's Day march usually occurs on March 17th in "Southie" and not miles away in Lynn, Mass., in June, but that's precisely what was being shot this week on the gangster film Black Mass. The true crime drama stars Johnny Depp and Benedict Cumberbatch as South Boston siblings "Whitey' and Billy Bulger, respectively. Whitey Bulger was Boston's most feared gangster while his younger brother Bill became the most powerful politician in Massachusetts.
The Scott Cooper-directed period pic is now shooting in the Greater Boston area. Fans and news outlets have taken to social media to post images and videos of Cumberbatch and Depp filming the St. Patrick's Day parade scene, which is set during the racially charged mid-'70s era of forced school busing in Boston.
