Uncanny Avengers #18.NOW Review

It's almost strange to see Rick Remender beginning a new story arc on Uncanny Avengers, as the events of "Ragnarok Now" and the battle with the Apocalypse Twins have consumed the series for the past year. But even though issue #18.NOW is a reasonably accessible jumping-on point, this new "Avenge the Earth" arc builds very directly on what's come before. Remender is launching into the next phase of a story he's been weaving for some time now. And with Daniel Acuna back on board, this is very much business as usual for Uncanny Avengers -- and business is great.


It's been obvious for a while now that the events of "Ragnarok Now" will have to be undone sooner or later. If the uncharacteristically numerous character deaths didn't make that obvious, the complete and utter destruction of Earth in issue #17 should have made that clear. As I said then, this is a case where the journey matters more than the destination. And the hope is that, even if the death and destruction is eventually undone, hopefully there will be a lasting, permanent impact on these characters.
