WGN America is developing a television series based on Scalped, a critically acclaimed comic from DC’s Vertigo imprint. The show is being written by Doug Jung who will also executive produce. Jung wrote several episodes of Banshee and created the 2009 show Dark Blue. He also worked as a writer and producer on HBO’s Big Love.
Written by Jason Aaron and drawn by R.M. Guera, Scalped is “a crime noir set on a Native American reservation” according to THR. Running from 2007 to 2012, “the series focused on the Oglala Lakota inhabitants in the fictional Prairie Rose Indian Reservation in South Dakota as they grapple with organized crime, poverty, drug and alcohol addiction and local politics while trying to preserve their cultural identity.”
