Now on Blu-ray after a brief theatrical run stateside and abroad, The Pirate Fairy is the fifth installment in the Disney Fairies franchise. Mae Whitman once again voices Tinker Bell, but this movie focuses more on two other characters: the titular Zarina (voiced by Mad Men's Christina Hendricks) and a pirate named James (voiced by Loki himself, Tom Hiddleston), who we'll learn is actually young Captain Hook. This makes The Pirate Fairy a prequel to Peter Pan, the classic tale that introduced the world to Neverland, Tinker Bell, and Captain Hook.
One of the Dustkeepers, Zarina is an unorthodox young fairy who'd rather walk through Pixie Hollow than fly and whose curiosity more often than not gets the better of her. Yearning to know how the blue pixie dust works and why it can only be blue, Zarina disregards the rules and warnings that Dustkeepers must obey -- and with results disastrous enough that she's banned from ever handling the blue dust again. Devastated, Zarina flees Pixie Hollow.
