Quentin Tarantino's Lawsuit Dismissed, But...

Director Quentin Tarantino is reportedly not able to sue Gawker for linking to a copy of his unproduced screenplay The Hateful Eight on their site. But, Tarantino can refile the case if he makes some changes.


According to The Hollywood Reporter, a California judge has dismissed the copyright infringement lawsuit that had Tarantino suing Gawker over sharing his screenplay online.



Gawker had “encouraged its reader to ‘enjoy’ reading the script,” says THR, prompting Tarantino to shelf the project, in light of the draft’s leak online. Gawker pleas that they shared a link to the script only because they knew Tarantino “had become upset” that the script had been leaked, and “vowed to scrap the film.” Under this argument, the script would then fall under “fair use,” lifting any punishment for Gawker.
