Look, in a show about fairy tale characters, a certain amount of cheese is expected. It can even be part of the fun. But the “it's the wicked west” line was too much. As was the whole idea of an Old West showdown on Main Street. Once we actually got to the fight it was enjoyable and went back to the comfortable kind of silly. Plus, it was shot and choreographed well.
The most important part about the duel is that we learned what Zelena wants from Regina: her heart. Zelena's already collected Charming's courage. It may not mean anything, but if you consider the Wizard of Oz story, the Lion needed courage, the Tin Man needed a heart, and the Scarecrow needed a brain. Hopefully it's not a coincidence.
