J.K. Rowling, the author behind the Harry Potter series, has signed a deal with the BBC and HBO to adapt her follow-up effort The Casual Vacancy into a three-hour miniseries.
Production had already been announced by the BBC, with plans to air on BBC One. The HBO agreement means it will air in the U.S. as well. Rowling herself will executive produce through her production company Bronte Film and Television, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sarah Phelps (EastEnders) will adapt the book into a miniseries, and Jonny Campbell (Alien Autopsy) will direct. Production is set to begin this summer in England.
