Get a Behind the Scenes Look at Salem

The area surrounding Shreveport, Louisiana is green with plenty of open spaces, and it looks like most rural areas of the South and Midwest with one tremendous exception: tucked into the two lane freeways and winding roads is the set of Salem.


Debuting Sunday night on WGN America, Salem is a retelling of the Salem witch trials -- pondering what could have been going on if something supernatural was actually occurring in the town -- so it's fitting that the exteriors look like a functioning village from the 17th century. Inspired by the actual Salem Village in Massachusetts, the rustic buildings and gallows transport you into the past.


During a recent visit, I explored the exterior and interior sets of Salem and was impressed with the amount of work put into everything from the set decorations to the aged paint on the buildings. Though no one said it, the John Hammond line from Jurassic Park kept running through my head: “We spared no expense.”
