CCP Games, the company known for EVE Online and for the recently canceled World of Darkness MMO, claimed losses of $21M USD in fiscal 2013.
GamesIndustry International reported the losses and notes that in fiscal 2012, CCP Games posted profits of $4.6M USD. The difference from one year to the next is likely the result of increased costs to develop World of Darkness, which contributed an unspecified amount to an R&D budget of $56.5M USD in fiscal 2013. The fiscal 2012 budget was only $16.5M.
The World of Darkness was a vampire-themed MMO in development through last week, when CCP canceled the project and laid off 56 people working at the Atlanta studio. The remaining staff will continue to contribute to the EVE universe.
