When Community’s season finale airs next week, it’s doubtful we’ll have an answer yet on the show’s fate, which makes it especially notable that we’re ending the season on a storyline where the actual fate of Greendale lies in the balance. Not that this is anything new for the show, of course, and for what it’s worth, the chances of a Season 6 seem pretty good right now. But this is a show known for its meta storylines, so why not one about saving the school – and by extension, Community itself?
Until the end, this wasn’t one of the show’s big, outwardly themed installments – in fact, a large portion of it was Abed’s observations that while there didn’t seem to be anything wrong, something had to be coming, since “Usually a lot more than this happens in a half hour.” And yes, the big “nothing’s going on moment” where we watched a random Greendale extra slurp soup for several moments was a wonderful, oh-so Community joke.
