Cap 2 Stays No. 1 at Weekend Box Office

Last week's champ Captain America: The Winter Soldier held on to the top spot at the domestic box office this weekend with an estimated $41.4 million, narrowly warding off newcomer Rio 2.


The Marvel sequel has now made $159 million domestically and is well on its way to eclipsing the $176.7 million its predecessor made at home. Worldwide, Cap 2 has already outgrossed The First Avenger $317.7 million to $193.9 million.


Blue Sky Studios/20th Century Fox's Rio 2 debuted in second place with an estimated $39 million, slightly behind the $39.2 million opening of the 2011 original. Rio 2's current worldwide gross is $163.3 million.


The weekend's other two wide releases -- Oculus and Draft Day -- opened in third and fourth place with $12 million and $9.8 million, respectively.
