It seems like a year off is exactly what Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque needed to bring American Vampire back to the heights to which it once soared. Admittedly, the newest issue of the series takes a while to really get roaring. It opens with the return of an old fan-favorite character, and while it’s great to see him back in action, the scene itself is pretty dull. The plot device it describes is pretty nonsensical, though it does contain an homage to one of the great American concert venues, which is very cool for fans of Nashville country music. Once that little bit of exposition is out of the way though, the story hits the ground running, with further exploration of who the mythical Grey Trader is in the grand scheme of the story.
