Marvel One-Shot: "All Hail the King" Review

Iron Man 3 Spoilers ahead.


Ever since Iron Man 3 was released, fans either fell in love with the drug-addled thespian Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley) or wanted his head on a pike for impersonating the leader of the Ten Rings, Mandarin. In an act of metatextual inspiration, Iron Man 3 co-writer Drew Pearce acknowledges this idea in the latest Marvel One-Shot, “All Hail the King,” included on the Thor: The Dark World Blu-ray (read our review of the disc).


In this 13-minute short, we catch up with Trevor in prison where he’s being hailed as a celebrity for his success in deceiving the world as Mandarin. Inmates ask him to “do the voice” on the regular and he’s treated with respect. Essentially, Trevor finally has the audience that he always wanted. On the other hand, a documentary filmmaker named Jackson Norris has been interviewing Trevor about the possibilities of the Ten Rings being angry with him for impersonating their leader. This is news to Trevor, of course, and paranoia ensues.
