Nintendo’s 3DS had a fantastic lineup of quality games in 2013. The expanded software library helped propel the system to become the number one selling platform of the year.
It’s almost daunting to consider how Nintendo would possibly outdo such a landmark year of great video games, but the Japanese publisher is already off to a strong start. We’re weeks away from the release of Bravely Default in the US, followed closely by Yoshi’s New Island, Shovel Knight and more. Of course we only have a small glimpse into Nintendo's future, so expect more announcements leading up to E3 2014. But here’s our current list of top 3DS games to watch out for this year.
Much like Fire Emblem Awakening in 2013, Bravely Default seems set to kick off the year with a meaty, strategic RPG adventure that’ll keep us glued to our 3DS’. It’s pretty much a Final Fantasy game in everything but the name, and it absolutely carries the torch of that series’ 16-bit legacy, while implimenting some absolutely fantastic tweaks and systems that other RPGs need to adopt. For example, once you’ve been able to adjust the battle encounter rate using a slider, you’ll never want to go back. Oh, also, Bravely Default wisely crafted a demo provides rewards which transfer over to the full game. Genious. The game has been out for a while in Europe, so check out our review.
